Mary Langer
2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 Ironman Wisconsin Finisher
I first met Mark Peterson in 2004 while I was training for Ironman Wisconsin.
My first triathlon (Devil's Lake) was in 2002 swimming entirely in sidestroke.
Spent the off-season learning to swim freestyle in the pool but still had a
tremendous fear of open water. Managed to get through the 2003 Triathlon
season finishing up with a 1/2 Ironman - exhausted when I got out of the
water but confident that I could become a better swimmer and do Ironman
in September of 2004.
I was struggling in the pool one day when Mark
approached me and offered some advice on my stroke and on my breathing.
I tried his suggestions and couldn't believe what a difference it made.
Suddenly I was able to swim 1/2 mile without feeling totally drained.
When the weather turned warmer, Mark took me out to Lake Wingra for
the real challenge - relaxing in open water. There were several
sessions out there where the waves were extremely challenging but
Mark stayed by me and offered me more suggestions.
What I find
most unique about Mark's teaching is that he has the ability to
tailor his lessons to each individual person rather than just
offering the same advice for every student. Not only is Mark
insightful in swimming, but he's also extremely knowledgeable
about triathlon training and other resources for athletes.
He's always willing to share his expertise in an effort to help
people achieve their goals. He's also a good friend who's caring
goes beyond training. His easy going smile and quick sense of humor
immediately puts people at ease and helps them to relax which is
another key to good swimming.
Whether your goal is a sprint triathlon,
Olympic Distance, 1/2 Ironman, Ironman or you just want to improve your
swimming, Mark Peterson is a perfect choice as he can hone in on your
strengths and weaknesses and get you to maximize your time in the pool
or open water.
