Triathlon Coaching

Whether you are training for your first triathlon, the Ironman or Half-Ironman, SWIMfast's comprehensive training programs will provide you with the tools needed for success. Training programs will not only focus on sport specific training (swim, biking and running methodology & mechanical analysis), but will incorporate activities and tools for the entire athlete ranging from strength training, breathing techniques, power training (plyometrics), mental imagery and nutrition.

Every training program starts with planning. The concepts of periodization, super compensation, and progression are cornerstones of a sound training program.

Periodization is used to divide the season into phases, each with specific goals. Each phase is further divided into Macros (4-6 week cycles), Micros (weekly cycles), and daily workouts. Super compensation is a concept describing the course of events following a training stimulus. An athlete experiences fatigue followed by recovery and adaptation that readies the person for an even greater training stimulus. High intensity or high volumes training periods are followed by appropriate recovery periods that allow for super compensation and improved performance.

Progression refers to the stepwise increases in training stimuli that both challenge and allow for adaptation without over training. Mixing theses concepts into a well-organized training program delivers a high level of performance.

By breaking the delivery of energy into parts and thoroughly training each part, levels of fitness and racing performance improve dramatically. The parts of the energy delivery systems are best trained separately by training at different paces or intensities.
